Fragile

Digital print on newsprint

World Book Night, 2020

A postcard-size double-sided print on thin newsprint, reproduces and responds to two handwritten Post-It notes I discovered stuck to the pages of a library copy of Nan Goldin’s photobook Fantastic Tales at Anglia Ruskin University, Cambridge. The written text links the 1980s AIDS pandemic with the 2020/1 Covid-19 pandemic, also expressing ideas about photography (‘photos show both the light and dark sides of existence’), books and the marks left by others.

Made for the exhibition ‘Should we have stayed home and thought of here?’, curated by Sarah Bodman and Linda Parr for World Book Night 2020. http://www.bookarts.uwe.ac.uk/wbn2020/

Fragile, 99mm x 150mm, inkjet print on 55gsm newsprint
